'Old Ironsides, the USS Constitution?
How was the USS Constitution (the first ship built for the U.S. Navy's oldest ship charge still afloat today) get dubbed the nickname "Old Ironsides "??????
USS Constitution was the first ship built for the U.S. Navy, but she is the oldest ship in commission. She was named in the battle with a British frigate, when the enemy fired simply bounced off his helmet, as if made of iron. BTW. A friend of mine two weeks of annual training aboard USS Constitution last year and still afloat. She was launched a few years ago.
