The term "Hellcats" is a title of distinction given to vessels involved in the operation carefully planned to challenge the tickets Barney infested with mines in an effort to penetrate the Sea of Japan. The term derives from the nickname applied by the U.S. Navy IJN to mine – "Hell Pots. When the FM sonar had picked up a contact, and a bump "visual on the screen, a bell-like tone sound is known as" Hells Bells ".
